The WAU congress 2027 will take place in Lisbon 31 Aug- 4 Sep 2027

The WAU 2027 Congress has as its theme “Life Imagined.” As we live through a rather gloomy period, our conference aims to foster debate on how anthropology can actively and constructively help people live out their “life imagined.” Just as the 1974 revolution brought hope to a country which had suffered for nearly half a century under the yoke of a brutal dictatorship, so we chose our logo—inspired in the red carnation of the April Portuguese revolution—and hope it may bloom to inspire all peoples to pursue their aspirations and imaginations of a more just world.The WAU 2027 Congress has as its theme “Life Imagined.” As we live through a rather gloomy period, our conference aims to foster debate on how anthropology can actively and constructively help people live out their “life imagined.” Just as the 1974 revolution brought hope to a country which had suffered for nearly half a century under the yoke of a brutal dictatorship, so we chose our logo—inspired in the red carnation of the April Portuguese revolution—and hope it may bloom to inspire all peoples to pursue their aspirations and imaginations of a more just world.
